Feds Give One Million Dollars to Streetsville Real Estate
Well, no there isn't going to be a new monster home in Streetsville! But Streetsville was awarded one million dollars for revitalizing some very special Streetsville real estate!
MP Brad Butt formally presented the City of Mississauga with the one million dollar cheque (well actually it was $990,000) but one million sounds so much better:) These funds came from the federal government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund.
This money will go towards the "revitalization" of the famous square in the centre of Streetsville.
George Carlson, Ward 11 City Councillor said "We want to turn the square into more of a people place". The plan is to perhaps close things down on the weekends for various festivals or move the farmer's market there.
Mayor McCallion believes that the cenotaph should remain the centrepiece of the square which was originally built in 1926.
I have often had the same thoughts on this as Mayor McCallion when I see the skateboarders and kids dropping ice cream on it. The honoured should have more respect given and perhaps more education as to the importance of this piece of history in the midst of Streetsville. Mayor McCallion also believes that the war memorial should be moved to a more "sacred" position in the square.
What are your thoughts on this? Let's talk.
